When it comes to "free" camping Eurobodalla is pretty light on. Once it was a camping mecca for families finding their favourite section of river, lake or ocean frontage in one of our many reserves however that has changed and the caravan parks have begun to strongly lobby Council to close down "free camping" options to drive campers and vanners to their businesses. There has been a strong push by Local Government to close down "free camping" and create new by-laws to further control it.

There is a plethora of No Camping signs erected up and down the coast to "cope" with the increase of International vanners and Grey Nomad travellers. Sadly Eurobodalla is one shire that has not risen to the occasion of welcoming vanners and campers, instead choosing to erect more and more signs to advise that overnight camping is not allowed.

In between all the red tape there are options though.

These are some of the few remaining natural long term BUDGET coastal camping sites in the Shire FROM NORTH TO SOUTH.

  • North Head campground Murramarang National Park - LOOK HERE for other National Park Options

  • Centrally the North Head Moruya campground is located adjacent to the Moruya Airport at the southern end of Bengello/South Broulee beach. The camping area offers toilet and cold shower facilities, firewood, tank and bore water. Bruce Cameron Drive North Head Ph 0428 633 447

  • Congo and Deua River (inland from Moruya) and Bendethera Valley campgrounds are run by National Parks.

  • The Dalmeny camping ground also has powered and unpowered sites and modern amenities and is conveniently located next to the local shops.

  • In the south of the shire the Mystery Bay camp ground overlooks the beach and is surrounded by National Park. Ph 0428 622 357.

Try Hicamp: it began in 2013 when two NSW South Coast landholders realised that all around them were beautiful places on private land that could be visited by the public if only there was a way for travellers and property owners to connect..

Travelling in a SELF CONTAINED VAN?
There are many many places to stay for a day or two free on the south coast but they are not adjacent to beautiful seaside views.

If you wish to enjoy the South Coast during the day and then park legally for the night then you will find the closest free camp:

The South Bodalla Park Forest Rest Area about 15km from Tuross highway turn off at the (8 mins south of Bodalla - left hand side of highway). It has toilets and fireplaces as well as allowing dogs

The North: Waldrons Swamp Rest Area is a very handy free overnight rest area between Batemans Bay and Moruya. There are accessible toilets as well as fire places and there is always a friendly bunch of nomads stopping here overnight, as it is a popular spot.

Public Dump Points - The Eurobodalla Shire has two public dump points located at Shore Street, Moruya and in Batemans Bay. You can find all the Dump Points along the coast at this map
